Algonquin Provincial Park: Where Wild Hearts Gather

One of the most diverse and ecologically rich areas in Canada is only a few hours from the New York border. This is where the northern boreal forests and southern deciduous forests meet, a transitional ecosystem alive with life. Moose, wolves, beavers, pine martens, foxes, loons, eagles, and countless other species call this place home. The sheer abundance of wildlife is why we lead family camping trips to Algonquin Provincial Park. It's an opportunity for families to fall in love with nature together.

While Wandering Wild is predominantly focused on leading women’s trips, we’re deeply committed to empowering women and creating accessibility for all women. The reality is that many women can’t step away from their children for even a single night. This trip is an allows for women, children, and extended family to embrace adventure together. It’s a chance to step away from the chaos and hurried rhythm of daily life, to slow down, reconnect, and just be together.

Our trips to Algonquin take place during the “shoulder seasons” of spring or fall. Our last one was in April 2025 for a very specific reason: as the snow melts, the salt that accumulated on the roads seeps into the ditches that line the park. Moose seek out this salt, making it one of the best times of year to view them, or to go “moosin’,” as we like to call it!

Our days were spent “moosin’” on sunrise drives, going on nature walks to identify as many species as we could, warming up at the visitor centre, and sharing dinner around the campfire. April can always be a gamble with the weather, so we were especially grateful for the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre. It has a fantastic museum area, gift shop, and a cozy community space with tables, a small kitchen area, and a viewing deck. It was the perfect place to make our own hot chocolate, prep lunches, and play a few board games while we warmed up.

The dynamic of this trip allows both adults and kids to build community. There’s a collective energy that brings everyone together as we prepare camp meals, build fires, split wood, and share stories. One of the hardest parts about traveling with children is feeling like you have to do it all: the planning, cooking, entertaining, and managing everything in between. The beauty of these community trips is that you don’t have to. We share the load so everyone can enjoy a hot meal, have a genuine conversation, and know that the kids are laughing and exploring with new friends.

If this kind of adventure speaks to you, keep an eye out for our next Algonquin Trip announcement. You can follow along on Instagram or Facebook to stay connected and see upcoming trips. We’d love to have you join us for the next “moosin’” season. ✨
