Itinerary
Day 1-Welcome to Calgary! Upon your arrival at YCC, a shuttle will be at your service to take you to Hotel 11 MOD A Sonesta, where you will be accommodated in a double-occupancy room featuring two queen beds. The hotel boasts exceptional amenities, including a late-night hot tub, as well as a bar and restaurant to cater to your dining preferences. We will begin our stay with a meet and before providing time for relaxation.
Day 2- Kananaskis and Banff We’ll hop into a van and start our day with breakfast and coffee at a local eatery. After about an hour’s drive, we’ll set off on a guided hike with a local Canadian guide in Kananaskis, where we’ll be treated to stunning mountain views. Following the hike, we’ll explore the charming town of Banff, perfect for wandering, shopping, and enjoying some warm drinks. Next, we’ll take a scenic drive to the Tunnel Mountain Lookout before heading 30 minutes to the Hi Castle Wilderness Hostel. Once we’re settled in, we’ll enjoy a family-style dinner together. The hostel features a cozy living room with plenty of seating, wrap-around windows, and a wood-burning stove. During our downtime, you can enjoy board games, books, or gather around the outdoor fire.
Day 3- Lake Louise and Icefields We'll start our morning with breakfast and coffee, and pack our lunches for the day. Our first stop will be along the Bow Valley Parkway to see Morant's Curve, a picturesque scene reminiscent of the Polar Express. We'll continue on down to the Icefields Parkway, keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife as we stop at iconic sights such as Peyto Lake. We'll head over to Lake Louise for some wild ice skating and an opportunity to get a drink at The Park Distillery Ice Bar or grab a coffee inside the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. We'll do an easy hike along the Lake Louise Lakeshore trail before heading back to our hostel for dinner and well-deserved relaxation.
Day 4-Johnston Canyon, Lake Minnewanka and Upper Hot Springs Our morning will kick off with an optional sunrise drive down the Bow Valley Parkway to search for wildlife including wolves, lynx, big horn sheep, elk, moose, mountain goats, and mountain lions. We'll come back for breakfast and coffee, pack out lunches for the day and head out to Johnston Canyon for an unforgettable guided ice walk through a canyon with multiple gorgeous waterfalls. Afterwards we'll head over to Banff Upper Hot Springs to warm up and soak in the natural mineral-rich waters. The afternoon will be spent doing a shoreline hike by Lake Minnewanka with a high-probability of wildlife viewing along the way. We'll head back to our hostel for some down time and dinner.
Day 5-Gondola to Sulphur Mountain, Banff & Wild Ice Skating After breakfast and coffee, we'll load up the van with optional packed lunches and head to the Banff Gondola where we will ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. At the top, we'll have many photo opportunities as we walk along the boardwalk trail taking in awe inspiring views from every direction. With a coffee shop and fire pits, we'll have a chance to warm up before heading back down to go into the town of Banff. You will have the opportunity to get lunch, shop, and explore the many spots in the town. We'll head over to The Park Distillery for tour around 3:15 pm. Afterwards we will make a stop at the gorgeous Bow Falls Viewpoint and head out for wild ice skating at one of the nearby lakes! We'll spend the evening enjoying a family-style dinner and down-time to cozy up by a fire.
Day 6- Dog sledding in Canmore, hike and explore the town of Canmore We'll have breakfast, coffee, pack lunches and check out of the hostel by 9:15 am as we set off to Canmore for Snowy Owls Dogsledding Tour! We'll arrive early for our 11 am tour that lasts approximately two hours. Each sled can accommodate 2-3 women and are self-driven. After our tour we'll head over to Canmore Nordic Center for the 2.1 mile group hike to Upper Grassi Lake. We'll have an opportunity to explore the downtown area of Canmore where we can choose to grab dinner. We'll make the 1 hour drive back to our same hotel to prepare for our flights in the morning.
Day 7- Early morning farewell. Shuttles will be arranged in advance to take each guest to the Calgary Airport for their flight. Check-out is by 11 am.
